In Memoriam
Hershey, The Great Chocolate Wonder
Hershey, named by his birth ranch as, “The Great Chocolate Wonder,” left his earthly herd in the early hours of December 28, 2009, at the age of 16. In the 9 years he graced Kindred Spirits Ranch, he brought joy and love to every animal and person he met (with the notable and comical exception of a cranky alpaca named Coronado, many years ago, to whom he brought some well-deserved spit). Hershey protected females and crias, prevented and stopped spats between herdsires, and lived peacefully with his herdmates. He contributed some of his beautiful, red fiber to a felted hat meant to warm the head of someone who had lost their hair to cancer. He was a blessing, in every sense of the word, and we loved him with all our hearts. We miss him and mourn his passing, and we give glory to our loving God, who gave our Kindred Spirits Ranch family the gift of this precious and very special alpaca for the years he was with us. We know that heaven is a much sweeter place now, with Hershey bringing his special brand of love and kindness to those who have gone home before him.
