Breeding Program
The Kindred Spirits Ranch Breeding Program is on Target
Our Breeding program was interrupted three years ago by a number of very difficult personal events, but that is all in the past. With two births in late 2006 and three births in November, 2007, Kindred Spirits Ranch is back on line in breeding high quality alpacas from excellent quality males.
Our good news started last year with the births of Rosita and Pistol Pete. Now a year old, these two yearlings are maturing into exceptional adults who will contribute to our breeding program and, eventually, add to the programs of others.
2007 has been very exciting. First, on October 29, Ananda gave birth to a rambunctious little boy whose vitality and outgoing personality immediately earned him the name of “King of Hearts.” As a little guy, “King” seemed a bit presumptuous, so he answers to the call of “L’il King.” Just three weeks later, Margarita (the first alpaca to join KSR) gave birth to a gorgeous little girl. Margarita’s remarkable personality demanded that her daughter’s name relate to mom, so the little one became “Tequila Sunrise,” who answers to the name “Sunny.” On November 24, Aliza had her first cria, another little girl who lit up the sky in spite of the very cold, dreary weather that welcomed her. Naturally, her name became “Aurora.”
All of our new arrivals are doing great, although Lil’ King managed to prove he is a rambunctious little boy by breaking his toe. Yep, another trip to the Veterinary Hospital at Oklahoma State University (OSU) ended up with L’il King sporting a nifty cast, in OSU colors, complete with a smiley face drawn by his doctor. These little guys are really tough and L’il King has learned to use his cast to “bat” at the rake used to scoop poop.
So, who are the daddies? All of these crias are fathered by the remarkable MacGwire (Mac). Mac is the son of the famed “The Silversmith.” Rosita and Sunny show the color carried by this line. The remaining cria show the pure white heritage of sire of their mothers, our prime stud, Marcus Camillus. Marcus is the son to the grate Accoyo herd sire Camillio, with Marcus being 7/8th pure Accoyo. Breeding services will soon be available with these fine males. Our youngest herd sire, Satori, is yet to be proven, but he is the grandson of Magical Farms incredible Dakotia, a stud set the standard for alpaca quality prior to his tragic death in 2003.
Stay tuned for more news as Kindred Spirits Ranch continues to grow and prosper.
